Two Years

Title: Two Years
Author: [livejournal.com profile] millionstar
Pairing: Belldom, AU
Rating: PG I guess?
Warnings: Character Death, Angst
Summary: The end of everything.
Note: This is in no way a happy fic, please bear that in mind. I found myself thinking about the end of days, and saying goodbye.  About reincarnation, about cosmic law; this is just a short fictional moment in time. I want to try new things, I guess. Anyway, if you do choose to read, thank you, so much.

"Hold me tighter."

Matthew, even now, could deny Dominic nothing. His arms tightened their grip.

"I don't want to see it. No," Dominic pleaded, and Matthew realized that he was crying. Matthew turned them, Dominic's back now to the window of their flat, Matthew now able to see what lie beyond it. Now, the tears filled his own eyes.

The ground shook violently as another bomb fell.

"You made me a better man, you know," Matthew said, his voice cracking. He stroked Dominic's hair. Assorted drones hovered in the distance, Matthew glaring coldly at them. He refused, especially now, to be afraid; he would not give the enemy such satisfaction. "I want to thank you for that. You made me happier than I ever thought I could be."

Dominic's mind was spinning, fear enveloping him like a vice. He simply held onto Matthew tighter, both of them rocking back and forth in their huddled position on their bed.

"You are all I ever wanted," he finally managed, "my Matthew. Light of my everlasting, godforsaken fucking life."

Two years. Like a mantra, it played in Dominic's mind endlessly. Two years.

Two years was nowhere near long enough to spend with your soul mate. Here, now, at the end of everything, Dominic felt a sudden, furious, soul-shaking anger at the futility of it all.

He pulled back, the urge to lay eyes on his lover's face one last time too much to overcome. They kissed with a fervency as well as a finality. He smiled through his tears and cupped Matthew's face. "Find me.  I'll find you, yeah? On the other side. I'll find you." Matthew nodded, unable to form a response. Dominic nodded too, the two of them embracing again.

An unnatural, mechanical whirring began to rise outside the window.

In the instant before the blast of fire consumed them, Matthew's heart soared unexpectedly.  He smiled.

I'll find you, Dom.

Wow! I very nearly didn't read. Character death on a Sunday morning just wasn't sitting well with me. But I did a bit of writing of my own, found my balance and thought I'd give it a try. So glad I did. This might be short, but so very powerful. I wish I could say that it didn't resonate in any way, that it wasn't at all relevant to our times. I wish.

Thanks for sharing, D. x

Thanks for reading, I really wasn't sure if anyone would - not that I would blame them, I typically can't read anything like this. Still, I wanted to try because I couldn't shake the idea.

I appreciate it. x

Thank you for choosing to read, despite the subject matter. x

I love angsty stories. And yeah, character death is hard, but in this case it was also very beautiful.

Wow.Extremely powerful.

Love is everything. Every. Damn. Thing.

side note - this reminded me a bit of The Song of Achilles - the idea of love continuing after death. I highly recommend it.

Character death is never an easy thing for me but I'm so glad I read this. I felt that sense of despair, but it was written so beautifully and had that tiny gleam of hope that they'd find each other & be together despite everything. Scarily realistic too...
thanks for posting <3
